Oh Hamada-ya wherever I find you, you never fail to meet or exceed my expectations. Whenever I stop into Mitsuwa I try to make a stop by Hamada-ya and get any of their pastries.
The prices are reasonable for the taste and size of the pastries (they're pretty big!). I usually go for their curry donut or their melon pan but this time I opted to get some of their cream puffs for family members and boy...do they pack in the cream inside their cream puffs! It looked almost like a mini tower when placed in the box. The pastry itself was light and flake while the cream was fluffy and added the sweetness overall but it wasn't too overbearing. It felt like I was eating a soft cloud with each bite. Definitely, something I will be going back for again in the future!
What was different about this Hamada-ya was the special items they offered, which was their coffee jelly during this day! The coffee jelly was basically coffee-flavored jello with milk and a certain amount of pumps of your choice. I went with two pumps for mine (and I still found it a bit too sweet). Still, I really liked the coffee jelly overall! It was a unique take on probably "coffee with milk" and definitely was more of a savory dessert than something to drink when trying to wake up in the morning (or not everyone has their own reason). I kind of wish it was at the Mitsuwa closer to my home (sadly I checked...alas no coffee jelly there).
I'd definitely want to go back again in the future just to see what specials they have for that day (or if the coffee jelly makes a permanent mark on the menu). Still, I speak for the Hamada-ya's I've been to and the quality and taste of their pastries are superb and worth trying at least once! -

Many years ago, at my old company, we used to come to Mitsuwa for lunch once in a while, and sometimes to pick up Japanese tea and drinks. And every time I'd come by here and buy something.
It's nice to see one of my old regular spots still here. The curry pockets are still deliciously crispy on the outside and moist inside. They still got cool Japanese doughnuts...
The ladies are bitchier looking now though. Ones clearly nicer than the other ha ha. But it's all good... I come here for the food. I'd be bitchy too if I had to stand behind a counter every day for a decade!
The pockets are cold now. They provide a microwave. Interesting.
Anyway good memories.

I always make a stop here when I eat at Mitsuwa to take home some of their amazing pastries.
The cream cornets are my favorite things to get. They're so delicious and I always leave with a full box. The cream is light, not too sweet, and the breading is airy and flaky with powdered sugar on top. A definite must-have! -

I always just come here for their almond coffee jelly drink. It's so simple and yet I crave it every time I'm near by. We occasionally get their loaf of bread which isn't too bad. Will try others things in the future

It's a tiny bakery shop located inside the grocery store, right next to the cashier, vey limited categories of bread, and often sold out fast, service wasn't very friendly.
